Extremely professional and dedicated guides

I was very impressed with these aurora hunters. The Rovaniemi northern lights tour ended up taking us all the way into Sweden! It took 7 hours, but they really did their best to make sure we got a good view of the lights. We had to wait a little, but they did appear, and they were absolutely beautiful. Our guide Nazariy was also very attentive and helped keep our spirits up. Very friendly and talkative - the coffee was a nice addition as well! I never felt cold at all, and had a truly great time.

One of the most beautiful sights I ever saw

Our Finnish Lapland trip was our honeymoon. The Aurora hunting tour Rovaniemi is perfect. The lights were literally the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen in my life. It only took like 3 hours to see them, although it took some travelling. It was totally worth it though. I’ve never seen so many different colors at once, and with the snow all around…magical experience. I also quite liked that it was a small group tour. You got to know the others better, and our guide Sam was very knowledgeable and nice. I would recommend it to anyone.

DESCRIPTION

Aurora Borealis Tour Rovaniemi

TRACK DOWN THE NORTHERN LIGHTS

To start the Aurora Borealis Tour Rovaniemi, we’ll pick you up from any address. Just make sure it's within the wider Rovaniemi area. You’ll travel in a luxury 4x4 van, with optimal heating capabilities. The Northern Lights can sometimes be difficult to see with the naked eye. However, our central command center maximizes your chances. They monitor weather conditions and solar activity throughout the night. Then, they re-route vans to the best viewing spots.

DRINK IN THE AURORA BOREALIS SIGHTING

Once we identify the best location with the clearest sky, your Northern Lights search comes to an end. Watch the Arctic night explode as the Aurora takes over the sky! They’ll be dozens of colors in dozens of shades, all dancing over the starry sky. The most common color is green, produced by oxygen high in the atmosphere. Blue and purple shades are caused by nitrogen particles interacting with solar energy. We’ll also give you thermal overalls to wear. That way, you can stand outside in the Arctic cold in full comfort - even at -40 °C!

TAKE PHOTOS AND RELAX WITH REFRESHMENTS

Witnessing the Aurora Borealis is a magical moment. So we’ll ensure you have a memory of your adventure forever. Your guide will first take professional photos of the Northern Lights on its own. Then, it’s your turn. Stand on the ice underneath the Aurora, so your guide can take pictures of your unique experience. You’ll receive top-notch DSLR photos of the highest quality! Once you’ve taken in the sights, return to the van for a hot drink and light snacks. You’ve just spent the night chasing the northern lights. Aurora hunting tours always make sure you relax afterwards!

Do you know why the Aurora Borealis appears?

Auroras occur when charged particles from the solar wind interact with Earth’s magnetosphere. The magnetic field guides these particles toward the polar regions, where they collide with oxygen and nitrogen atoms in the upper atmosphere. These atoms become excited as their electrons jump to higher energy levels, and when they return to their normal state, they release energy as light. This creates the beautiful colors of the Aurora Borealis. The exact shape and intensity depend on the speed and density of the incoming solar wind particles.

FAQ - Aurora Hunting Tour Rovaniemi

What is the best month to see the Northern Lights in Rovaniemi?

September, October and March are considered among the best months. The spring equinox happens in March. In September and October, the autumn equinox effect happens. This is when the Sun crosses the equator. Because of this, Earth's magnetic poles are often aligned perpendicular to the solar wind flow. This can lead to more geomagnetic storms, and, consequently, more powerful auroras.

How long does the Aurora Borealis last?

An aurora can last anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. However, a good display is usually around 30 minutes.

Will I get a refund if I don’t see the Aurora Borealis?

There’s no chance of that happening! Our command center tracks weather conditions. That way, they direct our vans to the best viewing spots.

What happens if the weather is bad?

If weather conditions are so bad that the Rovaniemi Northern Lights Tour cannot operate, you will receive a full refund.

What should I wear on the Rovaniemi Aurora Tour?

We’ll provide you with thermal overalls to ensure you stay warm. However, it never hurts to layer up. We suggest warm clothing, with multiple layers. Boots, gloves, a hat, and a scarf are also a great idea.
