Friendly dogs, great ride

I loved every moment of this tour. Driving the sled myself was exciting, and I was fascinated by the Alaskan huskies. They are so smart! The ride was beautiful, but meeting the dogs afterward was a highlight. They were so friendly, and I loved petting them. Our guide was also great; he explained everything clearly, so I felt very safe driving on my own. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so if you’re in Rovaniemi, do not miss out!

Jason
First time sledding

The husky ride was incredible! I had never driven a sled before, and our guide Elias made it simple to learn. I liked steering the sled while taking in the view of the snowy forests and open fields. Seeing the dogs run so fast was amazing. The kennel visit was fun too. We got to pet the huskies and watch them play. I also appreciated that winter clothing was included, as I did not dress warmly enough. The included transport was great too, as I was staying in Rovaniemi and wasn’t sure how to get to the farm. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun adventure in Rovaniemi!

DESCRIPTION

Husky Tour Rovaniemi

BEGIN YOUR ARCTIC ADVENTURE

Your Husky Ride in Rovaniemi begins with transport from Rovaniemi to the husky farm. Once you arrive, the Alaskan huskies will greet you with wagging tails and eager energy. You’ll be fitted with warm winter clothing, boots, and gloves. This will keep you comfortable in Arctic temperatures that can drop to -20°C (-4°F) or lower in winter. Your guide will give a full safety briefing and explain how to steer the sled, brake, and work as a team with the dogs. No prior experience is needed.

THE HUSKY RIDE EXPERIENCE

After the briefing, you’ll begin your 5 km husky safari in Rovaniemi. You will share a sled with another adult. You’ll take turns driving and riding. The team will pull you across forests, frozen lakes, and snowfields. The dogs will reach speeds of up to 6-9 mph (10-15 km/h). Take in the views and the serene atmosphere around you. The only sounds you’ll hear will be the sled gliding over the snow and the breathing of the huskies. The ride lasts 20 to 30 minutes, giving you plenty of time to take photos and enjoy the silent beauty of Lapland. Each dog on your team has trained for hundreds of kilometers to ensure a safe and smooth ride.

MEET THE HUSKIES AND RELAX

After the ride, return to the kennel to meet the dogs up close. You can pet or cuddle them while learning about their daily life and training routines. The musher will share stories about the history of huskies in Lapland. They will also talk about the huskies' role in sledding. To warm up, you'll enjoy hot drinks and biscuits by a cozy campfire. After a true taste of Lapland life, a comfortable transfer will take you back to Rovaniemi.

Interesting facts about Alaskan huskies

  • Alaskan Huskies are not a pure breed. They are a mix bred specifically for sled racing and work. Since they are bred for speed and endurance, their appearance is less important than in Siberian huskies.
  • These dogs can run 100 miles (160 km) or more in a single day during endurance races. They are built to keep going under extreme conditions.
  • Alaskan Huskies can average 12 to 16 mph (20 to 25 km/h) while running. They can also sprint faster in short bursts when needed.
  • In 1925, a diphtheria outbreak hit Nome, Alaska. Husky teams raced through a severe snowstorm to deliver medicine. They delivered it just in time to stop the disease from spreading.

GOOD TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

  • Arrive on time at the designated meeting point for the husky ride Rovaniemi. Late arrivals will miss the safari, and no refunds will be given.
  • You’ll get safety instructions before each self-driving husky ride. So, you don’t need any previous experience.
