So much fun!!

One of the coolest things I’ve ever done! It was amazing. We weren’t going crazy fast speeds, but it was still exciting. It’s a magical feeling, flying over the snow like that. If you’ve ever skied downhill fast, it kind of feels like that. But in my opinion better, because it’s less work. We even passed by some husky and reindeer! They were so cute. Our guide Juho really made the entire experience amazing though. He made sure everyone was comfortable, and was great at teaching us how to use the snowmobiles.

Magical snowy afternoon

It was truly an enchanting experience. I was a little worried about the cold, but to be honest they give you so much gear that you’re really okay. And you forget about the cold anyway as soon as you start driving - you’re too busy looking at everything around you! Vera was also kind enough to take photos of my wife and I on the snowmobile and also at the break stop. We had warm juice and biscuits - delicious! I also liked that they picked us up all the way out at the Santa Claus Village.

Snowmobile Tour Rovaniemi

MASTER THE ART OF SNOWMOBILE DRIVING

After the pick-up, we’ll drive you to the Arctic wilderness. Then, before your Snowmobile Tour Rovaniemi can begin, you’re going to learn how to drive a snowmobile! Your expert guide will dedicate at least half an hour to teaching everyone how to drive the vehicle. And, of course, how to do it safely! In essence, you’ll control the throttle or accelerator with your right thumb, and brake with your left. Your guide will also hand out helmets to ensure full safety. You’ll get a onesie snowsuit, thick socks, winter boots, a balaclava, and gloves. This will all make sure you stay warm while driving through the Arctic.

EXPLORE THE WINTER WILDERNESS

Now that you know how to operate the snowmobile, you’re off! Race over the snow and get lost in the beautiful Arctic nature. You’ll be rushing over glistening white banks, with tall evergreen trees reaching up into the sky. Even their green needles will look white - they’ll be snow piled high on them! Nordic nature is a true winter wonderland, unlike anything else on Earth. As you drive, take in the frozen landscape - who knows when you'll see sights like these again! While you soar over the snow, keep your eyes open. If you’re lucky, you’ll even spot some animals, like owls, foxes, or reindeer! If you want to see what else the Arctic has to offer, explore our list of top things to do in Rovaniemi.

STOP AND RELAX IN THE SERENE NATURE

Near the end of the Snowmobile Tour Rovaniemi, you’ll stop for a relaxing break. Get off your vehicle and experience the silence of the vast Nordic wilderness. While you admire the landscape, your guide will distribute refreshments. Take a hot drink - either tea or warm juice. You’ll also receive biscuits that you can dip into the beverage. Unwind with the drink and snacks, and take in the serene beauty of the snowy quiet. You can also take the opportunity to take some great photos. Ask your guide to snap some pictures - both of you on the snowmobile, and also just standing among the snow.

Interesting facts about snowmobiles

  • Snowmobiles were called ‘snow flyers’ when they were first created. They were also bigger, and could transport up to 7 people!
  • Smaller snowmobiles as we know them today used to be called ‘ski-doos’. They were supposed to be called ski-dogs, but ski-doo was a typing error.
  • The first snowmobiles and ski-doos were manufactured by Bombardier. Bombardier is a company that makes planes!
  • Modern snowmobiles float in the upper layers of the snow. In fact, they actually put less pressure on the ground than someone walking!

FAQ - Snowmobile Tour Rovaniemi

Do I need a driver’s license to drive a snowmobile?

Yes. You must also be 18 years old or older.

What should I wear on the Snowmobile Tour Rovaniemi?

We will provide you with a snowsuit, gloves, winter boots, thick socks, a balaclava, and a helmet. However, we suggest wearing multiple thin layers of clothing underneath for warmth. It’s a good idea to wear loose-fitting clothing, as that will trap warm air. Try to avoid cotton, as it retains moisture. Woolen or synthetic base layers work best to keep sweat away from your body. Can children participate in the Snowmobile Tour Rovaniemi?

Children aged 4 and above are welcome to participate. However, children between the ages of 4 and 14 will ride in a sledge behind the guide’s snowmobile.
